Update: Summer ’09, Extracurriculars, and The Elusive Issue #2

Hello out there various friends of the Sister, this dispatch comes to you from the wilds of Connecticut*. To answer a few lingering questions some of you may have:

1) Issue #2 is coming, though our editorial staff are all on a variety of hiatuses (hiati?) for the summer. Our editor-in-chief apologizes for the wait but assures you all that the magazine is not dead, but simply in a logistically-induced-coma for the time being.

2) Those of you working boring or otherwise filled-with-many-moments-of-free-time-and-Internet-access summer jobs or internships may be interested in the latest side project of our Editor-In-Chief. Exhausted by how many negative, unhelpful, and elitist music critics there are on this Great Internet Of Ours, he has decided to throw his metaphorical hat into the ring, and created his own music blog in which 1) every album that gets reviewed is a good one, 2) You don’t have to know exclusive lingo or confusing terms like “Radiohead-esque” or “post-hardcore” in order to read it, and 3) the reviewer’s critical range and ability are not hindered by such factors as “standards”.

3) Recommendations: One of our editors has completed “In Search Of Lost Time” and thinks it’s pretty great. Also, on recommendation from one editor’s roommate, the Editor-In-Chief recommends the story collection “Mothers And Other Monsters” by Maureen McHugh.

4) Again, we assure you, we here at Sister Psychosis still here and preparing to rock your literary world yet again. Stay tuned for updates.

Launch Party, 3/7/09, 9PM!!!!!

Sister Psychosis is 1 issue old! This is amazing! Because many of you may only know each other through writing and through email, here’s an opportunity to change that. Come grab a hard copy of the Inaugural Issue, meet and greet the fine people involved in the magazine, have a drink or five, and relax after recent midterms or relax in preparation for those upcoming.

DIRECTIONS

FOR THOSE OF YOU IN NYU HOUSING: 1) Come to Palladium which is at 140 E 14th Street.
2) Swipe in, and go to the elevators by the 13th St. entrance.
3) Go to the fifth floor, and it’ll be door #522, which has a big piece of red paper on it in the shape of South America.

FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT IN NYU HOUSING OR NOT NYU STUDENTS: See step 1) above. When you get to the Palladium lobby, call Liam at 203-376-5899 to get signed in. For those of you not in NYU housing who are definitely coming, or for those bringing friends who aren’t in NYU housing, please post on the event wall the number of people in your contingent, just so we’ll know how many people will need to be signed in.

BYOB but don’t worry about going drinkless, there’ll be enough for all. Hope to see you there to support and meet the rest of the Sister Psychosis community!

This flyer is included in the Inaugural Issue, and we’ll be putting it up around campus very soon on its own as well. Any help with this would be great; just print out and tack or tape up, and post or hand them out anywhere to anyone, and you’ll be doing Sister Psychosis a mitzvah.

So, if you have a reaction or whatever, please don’t have any reservations about shooting off an email to the writer in question.

This is the official Sister Psychosis website and blog. We are a literary magazine that gets people out of their little life-cubicles and gets them talking to each other, reading and editing each others’ writing. Bringing not just a personal touch, but a personal handshake, grab, and back-slap to publishing: that’s what we’re here to do.

Visit here regularly for updates, which you can also get through the Facebook group, just search for Sister Psychosis, as well as random musings, interesting facts, recommendations, and anything else that doesn’t really scan well in a mass Facebook message. Any help you can give with distributing flyers, issues, or simply the word of Sister Psychosis during the peregrinations of your daily lives would be appreciated so much so that not only would we be grateful, we’ll make you a mix CD, a good one with no bullshit or filler on it.

The Rules.
(…no exceptions.)
1. We will accept any writing from anyone, just as long as it’s good.
2. If we reject your writing, we will tell you, in no uncertain terms, why we have done so.
3. If the writers who receive rejections wish to do so, they can then argue their case for publishing their work. Argue well, and we may be convinced to change our decision.
4. We will publish as often as possible by keeping production costs as low as possible.
5. All input is welcome. It will receive a personal response.
6. If you do or don’t like us and/or our principles, then come work for us.
